Saif Ali Khan's last release Rangoon tanked at the box office. With a budget of over Rs 65 crore, the film had to do great business to be in the safe zone. The film has raked only about Rs 17 crore in 5 days which is disastrous for a film, monumented on this scale.

Rangoon failed to appease the audiences and the word of mouth too was mixed. Given that Vishal Bhardwaj's films usually cater to a niche audience, the budgeting should have been done in a better way.

Kareena Kapoor Khan who went gaga about the film, after she watched it at a private screening had to face some fiery questions from the media when she attended the Sony BBC Earth launch. Firstpost asked her about Rangoon's failure and she turned defensive.

Kareena said, "Vishal Bhardwaj's films are art, it is like a painting. You either like his films or you don't. It is not like a typical commercial film that is going to cater to everybody's taste and sensibilities, he caters to a certain section of audience and that is why some critics have revered it and called it a piece of art. Vishal Bhardwaj is known for that. So when you do a film like that, with a lot of love for cinema, the actors get lot of appreciation."

She added, "Some films are beyond box office collections. Saif has been in the industry for 25 long years. He is beyond success or failure of his movies."
