It was a decade ago that Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya got listeners tripping on their breakthrough track Char Baj Gaye (F.A.L.T.U) and then swaying to the sweet melody of Saibo (Shor in the City). After rocking it in Bollywood, the duo has now made a foray into the non-film space with Ruka Hoon, a romantic single that’s also sung by Jigar. About the late debut in alternative music, the singer-composer explains, “We were waiting for the right time. Since Bollywood music is dominated by remixes, now is the right time for indie artistes to rise above and start making original content.”

Though the composer jodi is big in movies, for their maiden single, they didn’t know what to expect. “Film music drives on star power and promotions done by the producer. This was our first attempt and we wanted to see how it works. Bollywood has such a vast listener base but indie artistes have a following purely for their own creations. That made this track more personal and helped us discover people who like us for our music and not for a film or its actors. It’s extremely satisfying to know there are people who follow us just for our music,” Jigar reacts to the song garnering more than 15 million views. The pair now looks forward to doing more music that’s close to their hearts.

Known for club ditties like Dance Basanti (Ungli, 2014), Kamariya (Stree, 2018) and many more, Sachin-Jigar chose a romantic track to begin their stint as indie artistes. This is because they believe in keeping things interesting musically. “Soon after Char Baj Gaye, we did Saibo or Jee Karda Marjaniya had Jeena Jeena in Badlapur (2015). Last year, we had Stree, which had Milegi Milegi and Kamariya, so, a love song came more naturally at that point. We strike a balance between quirk and soul when it comes to music, and this song is a step towards the latter,” Jigar points out.

When it comes to film works, they have Made in China, Bala and Street Dancer 3D coming up. Private music is not too far behind. “We will release a single every two months maybe. We already have three-four tracks ready but we are deciding what should come out first,” says Jigar, promising that it will all be a good mix of genres.
