Watch: Varun Dhawan steals the thunder with his ballistic avatar in 'Badlapur' teaser

Move over mushy rom-coms and comedy entertainers. Varun Dhawan is ready for some powerful gritty action drama. Badlapur, a hard hitting revenge saga has Varun essaying Raghu, a no-nonsense man who's lost everything for Liak (Nawazuddin Siddiqui)

Brawny and brazen, Varun's ballistic attitude stands as the high point of the one and half minute teaser. Sriram Raghavan who's known for his hard hitting films has definitely notched it up way beyond expectations and gifted Varun with a role that will not only help him shed off his inhibitions but will also help him change the stereotype that he's been jinxed with. 

While one thought it is only mushy rom-coms and comical entertainers which were Varun's forte, he defies everything to come across as this powerful hero in the trailer. The trailer, comes across as a violent revenge saga with a lot of bloodshed but it definitely ups our expectations from the film.

The film will also capture Varun aging throughout the film. while the first film will have him playing the young 20 year something, the second half will be more about his badla where he plays a 40 year old father in total vengeance mode! 

The best scene from the teaser trailer which gave goosebumps was the one where Varun is seen beating someone with a hammer repeatedly. Also given that Nawaz has already established himself as a menacing antagonist already, the face off between Varun's Raghu and Nawaz's Liak would be one to watch out for.

The film is scheduled for a February 2015 release and also stars Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Vinay Pathak and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles.
