Lightning McQueen is back on track but things are not looking so cheerful in the teaser for the new movie, Cars 3, for the race car viewers have come to admire so much.

The teaser starts with ominous heartbeats racing to come out of ribcage (or bonnet in this case) and cars zooming past at lightning speed. The commentator has his eyes on McQueen who is not doing so well. The Rust-eze still on his body, this piston cup winner is fading, fading fast!

Towards the end of the 49-second clip, McQueen spins out of control, does flip in the air, rubble and sparks fly with him as other cars spit fire and leave him behind. Screen fades to black and viewers are told, "From this moment, everything will change."

The third installment in Disney Pixar's franchise, from the looks of it, could put Lightning McQueen in the tires of Doc Hudson, the retired race car responsible for grounding McQueen in the first movie.

Doc Hudson was voiced by Paul Newman in 2006 movie. After Newman's death in 2008, the character did not make an appearance in Cars 2.

In the teaser, we see a few shiny new cars with a heart etched on their bumpers, blue neon linings on their body. These could be the new characters McQueen has to defeat in order win back his glory. In the quest, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, who has her own plan to win the Piston Cup.

Owen Wilson is back to do the voiceover for Lightning McQueen. Cars 3 is directed by Brian Fee. This is a promotion for the storyboard of Cars and Cars 2.

The movie is scheduled to release in US theatres on June 16, 2017.
