Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are in India for the Royal Visit and their every move is being covered extensively amid fanfare and aplomb. They were welcomed to India with a star-studded reception gala at the Taj Mahal Palace, where the who's who of Bollywood along with the biggest names in the business industry were present.
To add to the glam quotient, none other than Shah Rukh Khan gave the welcome speech at the gala hosted by the British High Commission in association with the British Asian Trust and Taj Mahal Palace hotel. King Khan looked suave in his tuxedo and arrived right on time with the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
His speech was met with much applause as he spoke about the virtues of India and the long-standing relation the coutry has with Great Britain and the Commonwealth nations. He also said, "I have also read her Royal Highness say, ‘I don’t know if I have a favourite colour.’ I just want to assure you ma'am, Your Royal Highness even though your stay is extremely short here in India, you will go back finding more than one favourite coloúr from this country. India is the most colourful and the warmest of the nations that you will ever visit in your lives. On behalf of all those present, I wish you a very warm welcome to India,” as reported by The Indian Express.
Shah Rukh's irrepressible charm is well-known but this time he was won over by the Duchess. "Is it ok to say she's extremely beautiful and elegant? Well she is!", said the superstar, as reported by Mail Online. This did not stop him from being his usual witty self and he joked that he would not be given a British visa by the Consulate if he broke in a jig!
The other celebrities at the Gala were Shiamak Davar, Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh as were Sachin Tendulkar and wife Anjali, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Neerja Birla to name a few.
Pictures of the night stormed social media soon after and can surely be termed as one of the most glitzy events of the year! Check some of the out below.
