After loads of teasing and tantalising the trailer for season 4 of Sherlock is here!

The trailer premiered at San Diego Comic- Con on Sunday to a jam-packed Hall H audience. And as Amanda Abbington promised in the panel conducted by Chris Hardwick, this season shall indeed be the darkest of all.

The trailer opens to a familiar face, that of Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) asking us, "Did you miss me?"

The season picks up after the climax of Sherlock's one-off special The Abominable Bride. Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) is back in London and he knows something is coming for him and for everyone he loves.

Jim Moriarty is definitely there. The Setlockers have seen Andrew Scott filming and we also get a glimpse of him in the trailer. But now there is a far worse enemy the detective has to deal with. Toby Jones was cast in this new role and according to writer-producer Steven Moffat, he will play one of Arthur Conan Doyle's finest villains!

There are high-speed chases, the return of a chopper, a lot of hand-to-hand fighting, and supposed shooting at the wall. But when Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) calls Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss) a 'reptile' you know nothing good is awaiting her tenants, a certain consulting detective and his blogger John Watson (Martin Freeman).

The curls are back (Internal fangirl squee), so are the witty remarks, Lestrade, and Molly Hooper.

Produced by Sue Vertue of Hartswood films, this season the BBC hit show for the first time roped in a female director,Rachel Talalay, to helm the ship. Nick Hurran who directed the last episode of season 3, His Last Vow, is back and a new entry in the form of Benjamin Caron has been made.

The show is definitely returning in 2017. We just have to sit tight to know the exact date.
