The Dunkirk evacuation was one of the most crucial moments of World War II. So when Christopher Nolan decides to bring it to silverscreen, fans are not wrong in hoping to get an intense, Oscar-bait movie.

Warner Bros released the announcement trailer for the movie on Thursday.

The trailer shows the windy shores and gloomy harbour of Dunkirk, France. The ominous ticks of a clock, going faster as time passes by, waves daring to breach the confines of harbour walls, only adds to the tension.

We see a lone figure walking towards the ocean (could be Tom Hardy), beach sand burying the dead bodies, and a barge full of soldiers looking at the sea.

They hear fighter planes ready for bombarding, one head turns, then another, and then every single one of them, and you realise the gravity of the situation.

Starring Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Harry Styles, the World War II saga is written and directed by Nolan.

The movie will release on July 21, 2017.
