Vyjayanthimala to make singing debut at 79!

Screen queen Vyjayanthimala quit acting 45 years ago to pursue Bharat Natyam. She has now moved on to singing.

Now aged 79, she will perform live in Chennai at two concerts organised by the Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University. The yesteryear actress would have made her singing debut in the beginning of December. But the flash floods in Chennai rained on her plans.

Says the actress, “I was in Mysore when the rains broke out in Chennai. I couldn’t return for many days , and my singing debut was postponed. Now it’s finally happening. Please wish me luck.”

About her new vocation, she says, “It’s never too late or too early to do what you wish to do in life. I’ve always followed my heart. I was an actress for 20 years. It was dancing that consumed my interest after acting and I devoted myself completely to it. And now I am taking to singing seriously. I hope I am successful.”
