In an act of utter shamelessness, disgrace, and vulgarity, a social media user on Monday issued a rape threat to actor Vijay Sethupathi's minor daughter on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The incident happened only hours after Vijay Sethupathi announced that he will not be acting in '800', a biopic on Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidaran. The Twitter user, Rithik (handle name: @ItsRithikRajh), alongside photos of the actor and his underage daughter wrote that the girl should be sexually assaulted “in order for her father to understand the difficult lives led by Tamils in Sri Lanka.”

In the meantime, several social media users who took cognizance of this tweet, which only goes onto reflect the individual's mentality, came down heavily on him, demanding that the person behind the handle be put behind the bars for advocating violence against a child.

Reacting to this, Indian playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada wrote on Twitter, "Is nobody in this system going to change this? A man who can say in public about raping a child is a criminal." In yet another tweet she wrote, "Why does this crappy society do this? Watch silently when this happens? How are men raised to speak out a rape threat?  Why is it when adults fight like hyenas, the women and children have to suffer?  Shame on all of you who do it and those who watch and remain silent (sic)."

DMK MP S Senthil Kumar took to his unverified Twitter account and wrote, “Kindly track this person and put him behind bars,” and tagged the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the Chennai police’s official Twitter handles.

Besides these, several users reported the account and demanded that the person behind the handle be arrested.

Earlier, Vijay Sethupathi on Monday announced that he will no longer be part of the film  800. Sharing cricketer Muthiah Muralidaran's letter requesting him to opt-out of the film, the actor said he has decided to quit the movie.

A controversy has arisen over the film citing reasons that Muralitharan was a supporter of the Rajapaksa government in Sri Lanka that is accused of standing by the genocide of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Before this, on October 9, in a similarly disgusting incident, some social media users issued rape threats to MS Dhoni’s six-year-old daughter Ziva following Chennai Super Kings’ 10-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020.

The incident was reported by several social media users, media outlets among others following which a 16-year-old boy was nabbed by the Gujarat Police after it was alleged that the minor had sent rape threats to Ziva on Dhoni's wife Sakshi's Instagram account.
