Actor Vicky Kaushal is excited about his role in Anurag Kashyap's next Raman Raghav as he feels it will break his image of a boy-next-door.

The 27-year-old has impressed the audience with his sweet, rooted characters coming from a humble background, in his last two films Masaan and Zubaan.

He, however, is set to surprise all by playing a "demented and aggressive" cop in the upcoming thriller. "Raman Raghav will break my image of cute, boy-next-door. My character in the film is mad, demented, very aggressive. He is a good cop but has his own issues," Vicky told PTI in an interview here.

It was not easy for the actor to get into the skin of the character, which was far from his real personality.

"Raman Raghav is my most challenging role till now, I was mentally exhausted. It is so unlike me that I can't connect with it at all. But that is the process I enjoy as well, where you are far from the character and slowly you reach a level where you understand it and start thinking like it."

The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role.

This is the second time Vicky and Nawazuddin are working together, though first as co-stars. Earlier, Vicky assisted Kashyap on Gangs of Wasseypur- 1 and 2, which had Nawazuddin playing the protagonist.

Vicky said the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star has not changed even a bit since his Gangs of Wasseypur time and continues to be humble and focused on work even today despite stardom.

"It was amazing sharing screen space with Nawazuddin. The most beautiful part about him is that he is still the same person. Gangs of Wasseypur was his first full-fledged role and the way he was during that time humbled, focused, he is still the same.

"As a co-actor, he is very open about sharing his experiences, like he shared his struggling times with me, how he learnt things.. He treats you like an equal and that's why you don't feel intimidated," Vicky said.

When asked about the reports that the movie is set for a May 20 release, the actor said, "The release date has not been officially announced by Phantom. There was a tweet saying that it is releasing on May 20 but nothing has been said by Phantom."
