When it comes to entertainment one is spoiled for choice with a large number of television channels and now streaming sites too offering various fare. However, while new shows are always welcome, it’s the old series that continue to draw fans. Last year saw the return of favourites like Will & Grace and Dynasty. And this year there’s plenty in store for audiences too.

Roseanne

The highly popular sitcom that ran from 1988 to 1997 followed the life of an American working-class family. With Roseanne Barr in the title role and John Goodman playing her husband it ran successfully for nine seasons. A few days ago, the Roseanne revival premiered garnering 18.2 million viewers. According to ABC, this is the highest-rated comedy telecast on any network in nearly four years.

Charmed

This series that debuted in the late ’90s, followed the lives of the three Halliwell sisters, Prue, Piper and Phoebe who have magical powers. They were joined by a long-lost half sister Paige in season four, post Prue’s death. One of the longest-running series with female leads, a reboot has been in the pipeline for a while now. And finally the casting of the sisters has been confirmed — Sarah Jeffery joins Melonie Diaz and Madeleine Mantock in the show that’s expected to release this year.

American Idol

The long-running singing competition, wrapped up its 15-season run few years ago with host Ryan Seacrest bidding adieu. Earlier this month, the show returned with all new judges, with its premiere getting 10.3 million viewers. Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan are now in the judging seats with Ryan returning as host.

Arrested Development

The show that traces the life of the highly dysfunctional Bluth family had won much critical acclaim. Post four seasons, the sitcom was cancelled by Fox in 2006. Netflix has confirmed that the new season will premiere sometime this year though the exact date isn’t known. The cast has been filming the new season since the end of 2017. Lead actor Jason Bateman revealed that the focus of this season would be on the murder of Lucille Austero, an age-old frenemy of the Bluth family.

Lost in Space

Children of the ’60s will remember the sci-fi television series of a pioneering family of space colonists. Netflix stepped in to take on the reboot with a cast that includes Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Ignacio Serricchio and Parker Posey. Production on the series began in January last year, in Vancouver, Canada, and the show is expected to debut next month on the streaming site.
