Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan have been flaunting their six-pack and eight-pack abs on the big screen, but our TV heroes are no less! Several male actors have been taking off their shirt to reveal their toned bodies much to the delight of the girls who are drooling over them.

As producer-director Rajan Shahi says, "Certain heroes on TV today have a dynamic image. Thanks to their looks and physiques they have acquired a huge fan following. We get feedback from the youth and girls about how dashing the hero is! I won't say it makes a difference to the ratings, but it definitely adds to the appeal."

Gul Khan whose trademark scenes include a pool and a shirtless hero says it helps to bring the glam quotient in the serial. From Geet Hui Sabse Parayi, Qubool Hai to Humsafars, all her heroes be it Gurmeet Choudhary, Karan Singh Grover, Karanvir Bohra and Harshad Chopra have shown off their dishy bodies. "Yes, and people have been joking that I have made a career out of objectifying men," smiles Gul. The producer says that youngsters love watching their favourite heroes sans their shirts. "I get a lot of positive feedback on the social networking sites," she says.

Gautam Rode who is known for his perfect physique had gone shirtless several times not only in his show Saraswatichandra, but even in Nach Baliye, which he was hosting! "As long as you are comfortable with your body and have prepared yourself well, there's no harm in showing it," Says Gautam, We won't be surprised if in his next show Mahakumbh too, the good looking actor will display his gym-toned body.

Apart from romantic shows, the other genres that have men baring their bodies are historicals and mythologicals. For Mahabharat, Shaheer Sheikh who was cast as Arjun had to work hard on building his physique. "In mythological serials we recreate an era of warriors. Having a great physique is a pre-requisite. For instance, though Shaheer suited the character of Arjun, he didn't have the built. He took a year and transformed himself and rest as they say is history," says producer Siddharth Kumar Tewary. With Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, Mohit Raina changed the way audiences view Gods. With his ripped body and chiselled features, Mohit's Shiva has earned a fan following across age groups.

Here, we take a look at other heroes who have been flaunting their bodies on the tube...

Anuj Sachdeva: Anuj's introduction scene had the camera panning his bare upper body in Itti Si Khushi. The scene was pivotal says producer Rajan because it was a way of showing the heroine Neha (Smriti Khanna) that the boy Aman (Anuj) she used to play with as a child has grown up. "She sees him when he is changing his clothes and realises that he is is no longer a boy, but a man." But the producer is all set to take off Anuj's shirt again! Says Anuj, "I did not know they are planning this, but I am game for it if the scenes demand it. Earlier in Chanchan also I had done topless scenes." He feels the audiences like to see such scenes and he is comfortable doing it. "I love myself and I am an actor. If the story is enhanced by such scenes why not," he grins.

Harshad Chopra: Humsafars had Harshad Chopra taking a dip in the swimming pool inside his bedroom. The heroine Arzoo (Shivya Pathania) goes into his room by mistake while Saahir (Harshad) who has his back to her thinks she is his secretary! An awkward situation alright, but that's just the beginning of the sparks that fly between the two. As Gul says, "These scenes add to the flavour of romance." For Harshad, the sequence was fun but challenging! "The water was really cold and the AC on was also on, so I was freezing. While I had to look all macho, I was shivering all over," says Harshad. A fitness freak, Harshad makes it a point to hit the gym and work out for some time, even if he is shooting all day. "My inspiration is Salman Khan, I think he has one of the best bodies in Bollywood," he says.

Karanvir Bohra: If there's one hero who removes his shirt at the drop of a hat it's Qubool Hai's Aahil i.e Karanvir. "It's a passionate love story and a swimming pool is in my room, there are enough reasons to go shirtless," smiles Karanvir. The last time he took off his shirt was when Sanam (Surbhi Jyoti) gave him a sponge bath because his hand was in a plaster. "I have a shirtless scene every two weeks," says the actor who loves flaunting his body. "Left to myself, I would wear only jeans and no shirt," he says. A regular at the gym, Karanvir is proud of his naturally lean and toned body.

Ssharad Malhotra: Ssharad who is back in action, literally and figuratively, playing the title role in Maharana Pratap is ready to go "topless" any time in the serial or "as many times as there are fight sequences". In fact, a promo with him baring his torso, holding a bow and arrow and in a fighting mode is already on air. Ssharad has been working hard on his physique from the time he's signed the show. "I have bulked up a bit. I also underwent martial arts training. I avoid junk food and am careful about what I eat. My show and role is such that physicality is an important part of the character. Who doesn't like to have eye tonic. Women love it," he says grinning.

Bhanu Uday: "If you have a body that you can flaunt, then why not," is what Bhanu believes especially after going shirtless for Hamari Sister Didi. In the show he was shown to have just finished taking a shower and with a towel wrapped around him thinking about Amrita (Pariva Praniti). Initially, Bhanu was apprehensive about taking off his shirt but he took up the challenge. "I am a gym freak and nothing can stop me from hitting the gym, not even shoots. There have been times when I have shot till the wee hours in the morning but ensured that I hit the gym the following day," says Bhanu.
