Laxmi Narayan Tripathi is livid with the portrayal of the transgender community in Uttaran. Currently, the track is about Maharani (Rajesh Khera), a eunuch who is running a brothel and has forced Kajri (Aarti Singh), Meethi's sister-in-law into prostitution. Meethi (Tina Dutta) in the process of rescuing her also gets abducted. The track has just begun a couple of days ago and when Laxmi saw the episodes she was enraged.

"How can they be so insensitive? How can they show that hijras are into women trafficking? It pushes back all the work that we have done so far for the rights of trangenders, especially on the back of the Supreme Court's path-breaking judgement. I was appalled to see the track and as the founding member of the Asia Pacific Transgendered Network, I have written to the channel asking for an unconditional apology.'' However, it was Tina who got the call first yesterday morning asking for an apology. "I explained to them that I was just an actor. They said they will hold a morcha if the an apology is not tendered," says Tina who asked them to get in touch with the producer or the channel. We contacted the channel officials, but they were unavailable for comment.
