As we near the year end, let's take a look back at the television serials that won big on the small screen in 2014. Have a look:

Comedy Nights with Kapil

Endearing the audience with his rib-tickling humour, comedy king Kapil Sharma retained his stardom and kept his huge fan following highly entertained. Sharma is the host of Comedy Nights with Kapil where he interviews celebrities and make them connect with fans in a unique way. He started his career in the comedy business after winning the third season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. The actor was also listed among top 100 Indian celebrities in Forbes in 2013.

As unbeatable he was in 2014, it seems the comedy king is set to keep his audience entertained in 2015 also. Way to go, Kapil!

Mahabharat

The mythological drama series took Indian television by storm in 2014. Since its inception in September 2013 on Star Plus, the story of Kaurava and the Pandavas managed to keep their audiences glued to their small screens till August 2014. While Indians love to watching mythological series, the makers don't usually keep up with their expectations. But Mahabharat', produced by Swastik Pictures, has become a visual treat for its fans and also garnered much-needed acclaim for its actors.

Jodha Akbar

As much as the historical period drama about King Akbar and his bitter-sweet love-story with Jodha grabbed many eyeballs, there were a number of controversies that surrounded it. The ruckus created by Sri Rajput Karni Sena against Ekta Kapoor for allegedly depicting untrue facts on her show, Jodha Akbar lead to the queen of soap opera—Ekta Kapoor to disassociate her name from the show.

Despite this, Jodha Akbar emerged as one of the most-watched television serials in 2014. The show is telecasted at 8 pm on Zee TV.

Everest

Bollywood maestro Ashutosh Gowarikar gave his fans chills—literally by making his television debut as the producer of Everest. The story of an ordinary girl, Anjali Singh Rawat (Shamata Anchan), trying to do something extraordinary, has been doing rounds since November 3 on Star Plus. Gowarikar's 'dream project' took it a while to pick up among the target audience but in approximately two months, it seems like he has succeeded to project his dream to a 'larger audience', as he's quoted as saying.

Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma

Since July 28, 2008, Jetha Bhai and Jaya Bhen, the most-famous on-screen couple, have been successfully endearing their fans! Even after completing nearly 1500 episodes, the family comedy show has proved its mettle by compelling its viewers to reserve the time slot for the series on Sab TV everyday.

Kumkum Bhagya

Seemed like soap-opera queen Ekta Kapoor's 'K' charm worked once again when she introduced Kumkum Bhagya in April, 2014. Just like her other melodramatic serials, this one also ruled the roost in 2014. Kumkum Bhagya: a story about Pragya's struggle to find her soulmate, has raked in rave reviews already. Though the year is about to end, Pragya-Abhi's love story seems to have just begun. It's definitely going to be a long way for them in the coming year.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein

Based on Manju Kapoor's novel Custody, Ekta Kapoor's Yeh Hai Mohabbatein has already completed a year since it was first aired on November 3, 2013 on Star Plus, and it still seems as fresh as a new serial. Such is the charm of Balaji Telefilms. Right from Hum Paanch, Balaji has keep the quality of its serials intact! Even the longest serial (including all the leaps that are introduced), remains filled with energy as it progresses.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is a love story about Raman and Ishita, which is solely connected by their common love for Raman' daughter Ruhi. The series deals with divorce, infertility, remarriage, mature love and has been a top scorer in 2014.

Diya Aur Baati Hum

Aired in August, 2011, Diya Aur Baati Hum has had high TRPs. According to the latest update on bollywoodlife.com, the serial has the maximum TRPs along with Yeh Hai Mohabbatein

Diya Aur Baati Hum is a story about Sandhya, who dreams to break the boundaries by becoming a successful IPS office, and her husband Sooraj, who is an illiterate man who owns a sweet shop near his house. The story of this supportive husband and the determined wife has been among top three shows in 2014.

Sath Nibhana Sathiya

Even after taking major turns and twists and leaps, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, the story of two cousins – Gopi and Rashi – who are complete opposites, remains to one of the most watched fiction drama serials of 2014. Although both of the original protagonists have left the show for their own reasons, the show has managed to keep the Gujarati-family vibe intact.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one has been running successfully for approximately five years now, since its first episode was aired on January 12, 2009. The show has had its share of crest and troughs over the years, but it has surpassed all the miserable times graciously.
