Veteran US rocker Tom Petty, whose vibrant guitar riffs, distinctly raw, nasal vocals and slick song lyrics graced such hits as "Refugee," "Free Fallin'" and "American Girl," died following a heart attack on Monday. He was 66.

Since then sales for his music catalogue have spiked nearly 6800%, reports Los Angeles Times.

Citing the data analysis done by BuzzAngle Music company, the report says that Petty's discography has seen 6,781% growth following the rocker's death.

Petty's 'Free Fallin,' 'I Won't Back Down,' and 'Mary Jane's Last Dance' are the top three most-streamed or purchased songs.

Greatest Hits collection, Wildflowers, Anthology: Through the Years, Damn the Torpedoes, and Full Moon Fever have become his top-selling albums.

Petty suffered cardiac arrest and was found unconscious at his home in Malibu early on Monday morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived.

"We are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty," Tony Dimitriades, his long-time manager, said on behalf of the family.
