Parents sell house to pay off debts. Son vows to grow up and buy back said house he grew up in. A bucketful of tears later, mother and father move back into old home. It’s a story right out of a typical Bollywood script. But in Tiger Shroff’s case, his parents Jackie and Ayesha, turned down his offer to buy back their old apartment in Le Pepeyon on Mount Mary Road in Bandra, where he and his sister Krishna grew up. The Shroffs are very happy with their spacious rented apartment on Carter Road.

Ayesha recalls, “Tiger gave us his first signing amount (cheque) for Heropanti which he had got from Nadiadwala & Grandson. He put it in an envelope and wrote on it, ‘Mommy and daddy, this is for you.’ I have framed it and put it on our bedroom wall.”

She revealed that Tiger wanted to buy back the Le Pepeyon apartment though they have settled down in their new home. Says Ayesha, “It was a loving and sweet thought but we are very happy and settled here. It’s more spacious. In fact, Jaggu has suggested that Tiger buy Le Pepeyon back and turn it into an office space for himself. All the families who lived in that building at the time,  have moved out. Our attachment to the house was with them and the kids grew up with their gang of friends. Tiger and Kishu (Krishna) would have classes together with the other kids. Now most are grown up, married and settled all over the world.”

The doting Shroff mama says that Tiger is the best son a mother could ask for — he is a caring boy, with simple tastes. “With his fee for his first film, he bought his sister a cute Mini Cooper. On Sundays, he has his cheat days where he only eats at Indigo. He’s a very simple boy, who is only interested in his work and buys little things for his sister. His dad keeps telling him that he needs a bigger car for his team to travel to shoots with him, but Tiger insists that he is very happy with his blue Chevrolet. He looks after his money wisely and is not at all a materialistic person.”

Tiger confirms, “I have grown up in that house and have so many memories there. My grandmothers lived in that house too, so we had lots of happy times over there so it was sad to give up that house. I promised my mother when I signed Heropanti that I would get it back. And now that I can afford to buy it back, she says she doesn’t want it and she’s happy where she’s staying.”

What had happened

Jackie had sold off their Le Pepeyon apartment when distributors backed out of Ayesha’s debut production Boom (2002), to finance the movie. Tiger had promised to buy it back for his mom. And now that he can afford to keep his promise to buy it back, she does not want the place as she is happy where she is.
