He’s taken the nation by storm — there’s many a campaign on social networking sites in the name of Bob Biswas. In fact, he’s also made his way to management blogs under the section — How well do you know your employee?

But the man himself, Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee, who prefers not to carry a cellphone, unlike his screen character, is clueless about the power of the deadly insurance agent from Kahaani.

“Yes, I get to hear from friends and family about how my character is being spoken about. It’s a pleasant surprise as I was least expecting this reaction, rather, the role,” he confesses, adding, “But now that it’s happened, I’m definitely not complaining.

” The son of noted Bengali actor, Subhendu Chatterjee, Saswata, has been working in films and television for nearly 20 years. “What’s exciting is that after all these years, I have made my Bollywood debut. And the reach of the Hindi film industry is huge. I have people calling me from the Middle East and USA congratulating me on the ‘cult’ figure. But I must say, Sujoy (Ghosh, director) and his team are also responsible for Bob,” he states.

Playing Bob was quite a challenge. “The duration of the character wasn’t much but I needed to make him stand out. And thanks to my years of experience and different people I’ve met — they helped me give Bob a certain character,” informs the actor, adding, “He’s pot-bellied, not aged but balding, the spectacles, body language — definitely didn’t make him look a contract killer.”
Quiz him on shooting one of the most memorable scenes from the film — when Bob pushes Vidya Bagchi in front of an approaching Metro train — and Saswata says, “It took us a whole night to shoot that — we started after the last train and had to wrap up before the first train next morning.

Quite a schedule that was.” Saswata recollects with a laugh his first visit to the hall to see the film with the team. “I could hear people loudly grumble about the interval and not step out during it, so as not to miss any portion of the film. In fact, when they show Bob’s face after he kills Agnes d’Mello, I froze in my seat,” he ends.
