...but then not really.

Since the title of the next Star Wars movie installment was released in February — Star Wars: The Last Jedi — the question of whether the 'Jedi' in the title is singular or plural fuelled quite a lot of fan theories about Luke Skywalker's future and Rey's back story.
Lucasfilm released the teaser trailer for the overall ninth movie of the Skywalker saga on Friday. The trailer showed that Luke believes that it is time for the Jedi to end. That line in the trailer blew fans away. And the new piece information that came from the director, Rian Johnson, does clear the air about the fate of the Jedi.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Johnson said that he found the question which has been frustrating so many people to be uninteresting. "It's so funny when people started asking that when the title was announced because I had never even pondered that question. That seems like, to me, the most uninteresting (question)," said Johnson.
As he continued, he said that for him the Jedi in the title is singular. When asked if that lone Jedi is Luke Skywalker, Johnson referred to a line from The Force Awakens, "I mean they say, in The Force Awakens, that he's going to find the last Jedi temple, and Luke is the last Jedi."

Now keep in mind that The Last Jedi is written and directed by Johnson. So if in his head the word Jedi is singular, why would the international marketing team use the plural form the word in the posters?
The international posters released in Spanish, German, French, and Italian for the movie have used the plural form of the word. Marketing goof up is not the case here. Since all the posters are in the plural, it suggests that at least some guidance was offered by the filmmakers.
So, in the end, Johnson has talked about the plural and singular confusion of the word Jedi. But this hasn't tamed fan curiosity. We have until December 15, when movie releases, to keep pondering.
