Is it time for Bollywood to take sides? No we are not referring to any particular camp but highlighting the return of the side parting. With Hollywood celebs like Leonardo Di Caprio, Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Daniel Radcliffe, Ryan Gosling and David Beckham sporting this look, the hairstyle is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance. And what catches on in the West, slowly trickles down back home. Already it has been spotted on our actors, will it become a fad?

While some heroes have dared to embrace the TGG look for red carpet events, the look is often referred to as geeky, rigid and predictable. Celebrity hairstylist, Kanta Motwani says, “Our cinema is becoming international, and whatever happens in the West gets picked up here. It will definitely catch on, and if styled well, it will look good. I think actors like Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Arun Rampal, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawn and Siddharth Malhotra can carry off this look. While I would love to see more of them try this look off screen, I don’t see that happening because it’s more apt for a formal occasion.”

Who says it’s geeky?

Hair stylist Sapna Bhavnani, adds, “I think George Clooney has been sporting the side parting for a while. And before him it was James Dean, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

None of them geeks. We need to be more open and not label it geeky or champu.”

Side parting styling tips from Kanta
Ensure your hair is a bit damp. Take the back of a hair comb and right in the middle of your left or right eyebrow (whichever is the natural flow of the hair growth). You can place the comb on your hairline and take it towards the crown about two to three inches and then comb the hair on both the sides and flatten the sides above the ear area on both the sides. Take a bit of styling product like a hair gel or pomade or hair wax / texturising gel.

Take a bit of this and put it around the hairline to lift the hair to avoid a champu look.

If you are not wearing formals and yet want to go for a side parting you can give your hair a bit of texture using a hair styling product and raise the hair a bit so it does not look flat. This hairstyle will most suit on straight or slightly wavy hair.
