The Expendables 3 failed to budge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Guardians of the Galaxy from their top positions at the North American box office.

While the first Expendables had opened with 34.8 million dollars domestically back in 2010, and the second film with 28.6 million dollars in 2012, the latest movie in the franchise grossed just 16.2 million dollars in its debut weekend, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Even 20th Century Fox's film, Let's Be Cops grossed more than the action film, taking the third position with a domestic debut of 26.1 million dollars. It is believed that the good copy of the film, which had leaked on the Internet, played a huge role in damaging the film's box office performance.

Meanwhile, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grossed a total of 117.6 million dollars in its second week, and Guardians of the Galaxy stayed put at second position as it grossed a total of 222.3 million dollars in its third weekend domestically. The Marvel movie even crossed 400 million dollars mark at the global box office.
