The Grammys aren’t called the truest gem of red carpet fashion for no reason. Think of all the luxe and quirk in the world put together, and that’s when you get close to the unimaginable madness that storms the red carpet there.

No place for fairytale-inspired gowns and dresses, which usually abound the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, here. Musicians have, for decades now, set standards for edgy fashion with their eclectic sartorial sense, and this year’s red carpet was just another reminder of that. Move over canary yellows, and cold shoulder glitz — let our songstresses show you how to cut the real deal (we dare comment on whether in a good way or bad).

Here’s our round up of all the ensembles that grabbed a serious deal of eyeballs, or made us go va va voom!

Lady Gaga

Think kink, think leather, and a wee bit of glam metal chic — That’s the vibe the feisty vixen channeled in a shiny leather ensemble with feather embellishments by Alex Ulichny — something only Gaga could pull off. Definitely more hooker than cool, but there’s no taking away the sass she adds to it.

Jennifer Lopez

Man, she looked every bit like a dream in her risqué Ralph & Russo lilac gown and embellished ankle-strap Louboutins. We love the high split, the corsage, and the keyhole too; but very Oscar-ish! Weren’t we expecting just a little more spunk?

Carrie Underwood

The country music star looked like a queen in a scarlet, embellished Elie Madi gown. The deep thigh splits added the much much-needed oomph, transforming the look from grandma to fab. We like how she kept the rest of the look clean and kept her baubles low key.

Adele

She looked like a darling in that green custom made Givenchy number. The colour was a much required breather, and we are beyond glad to finally see her move away from her staple palette. Rumours have it — the colour might soon be called Adele green!

Kelsea Ballerini

Okay! So, fairytale-ish in a good way, rather best. Her sheer floral Ines Di Santo dress with lace overlay and aqua floral motifs, and a ‘corset-y’, nude body suit left no room for criticism. Very, very pro!

Katy Perry

Part bling, part feathers, Anna Wintour would probably root for this dress. This gold sequinned Tom Ford gown had a feather skirt. You’ve got to see it to believe what a diva she looked in it.

Rihanna

She just went all out and put an end to all the debates on orange being the new black. Screw controversies! She wore the colours together — An orange cropped top and a black ball gown skirt by Armani Prive. Not exactly the most flattering outfit, but she doesn’t care, and we love that!

Joy Villa

She could only win brownie points if politically-charged red carpet looks were the ‘it’ thing. Wearing a Trump dress - oh yes, you read it right - the 25-year-old wore a blue mermaid gown that only spoke about the business tycoon…ooops… President!

CeeLo Green

He wore an alien costume…we guess! Ermm…it was gold, and gold, and gold. Oh, and we couldn’t make out the face much either, because, hey — gold again! Enough said.

Girl Crush

Not so much! She probably missed her birthday cake from when she was five years old, way too much. The most hideous pink bralette was paired with a skirt that had coloured balls attached to it. Publicity stunt much?

Halsey

Don’t hate her. She was probably in a rush, and threw her curtains on. Did we mention how she forgot to wear a shirt too? We hope she starts prepping up earlier next time.
