Pop star Taylor Swift admits she "never expected" Apple Music's stance on paying artists' royalties for music streamed on the service would change after she openly spoke against it.

The 25-year-old 'Shake It Off' hitmaker wrote an open letter criticising Apple Music's decision not to pay artists' royalties for streams played while users were on a trial period.

"I had no idea what would happen but I just wanted to say something. I didn't really expect anything to happen at all." Following the publication of Swift's letter last month, Eddy Cue, the Senior Vice-President of Internet Software and Services at Apple, vowed the company would change its policy.

"#AppleMusic will pay artist for streaming, even during customer's free trial period. We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple. (sic)," he tweeted.
