National Award-winning Tamil director-cinematographer KV Anand passes away at 54

For the unversed, Anand had won a National Film Award for his debut film as a cinematographer, the Malayalam movie 'Thenmavin Kombath' in 1994.

In yet another piece of the tragic news of an immense loss to the Indian film industry, Tamil director-cinematographer KV Anand passed away on Friday morning in Chennai following a heart attack. He was 54. 

The news of his demise left his fans and members of the industry in shock as they tweeted condolences after the news broke online. 

Actor Gautham Karthik wrote on Twitter, "We've lost a wonderful creator. #KVAnand sir may you rest in peace. My condolences to the family."

Music director Harris Jayaraj tweeted, "Unfortunate and extremely shock to hear this devastating News. RIP my friend KV Anand."

Cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan wrote on Twitter, "KV Anand RIP god bless."

Music composer D Imman tweeted, "My deepest condolences to KV Anand Sir’s family. Rest In Peace sir."

After a career as a cinematographer for over a decade, he helmed Tamil films like 'Ayan', 'Ko', 'Maattrraan', 'Anegan', 'Kavan' and 'Kaappaan' to name a few. Anand made his directorial debut with the 2005 movie 'Kana Kandaen'.

KV Anand started his career as a photojournalist assisting noted cinematographer PC Sreeram in films such as 'Gopura Vasalile', 'Meera', 'Devar Magan', 'Amaran' and 'Thiruda Thiruda'. 

For the unversed, Anand had won a National Film Award for his debut film as a cinematographer, the Malayalam movie 'Thenmavin Kombath' in 1994. It was Sreeram who had recommended his name for the film.
