Pulkit Samrat-Yami Gautam's Sanam Re records a higher figure than Aditya Roy Kapur-Katrina Kaif-Tabu starrer Fitoor on the opening day at the domestic box office.
When Divya Khosla Kumar announced that her second directorial venture Sanam Re will clash with Abhishek Kapoor's Fitoor, people had scoffed off at the mere idea of the clash. With the star power tilting towards Fitoor (Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapur and Tabu on one side and Pulkit-Yami-Urvashi on the other), it was expected to beat Sanam Re- left, right and centre. Sadly, the tables have turned. Divya's risk has paid off well as Sanam Re has beaten Fitoor at the box office on the opening day.
The Day One collections are out and Sanam Re has emerged stronger than Fitoor at the BO. Having an advantage of more screens already, Sanam Re recorded better occupancy than Fitoor. Although the collections for either films aren't very high, considering Sanam Re's low budget of Rs 20 crore, the film has taken a decent start for sure. It only depends on how the film fares over the weekend. Sanam Re has netted around Rs 5.04 crore on its opening day.
On the contrary, Fitoor had great songs and the scintillating Aditya-Katrina chemistry coupled with Tabu's towering presence. But still, it failed to connect with the audiences. It released across 1500 screens all over India and the occupancy reports had already suggested that the film would be struggling to recover its huge investment of Rs 70 crore. On the first day, Fitoor could only bring Rs 3.61 crore, which is way lesser than Fitoor. Considering that this is made on a bigger budget, Fitoor needs to have huge numbers in the coming few days to even record a safe total. Otherwise, the film will end up giving huge losses to the producer.
As for the clash, Sanam Re has overtaken Fitoor, much to everyone's surprise. After all, the underdog has triumphed this time as well. Remember the Bajirao Mastani-Dilwale clash?
