A light-hearted comedy is the sort of film Taapsee Pannu started her Bollywood career with. Now, she has just signed Judwaa 2 opposite Varun Dhawan in a film directed by David Dhawan, who, incidentally was also her first Bollywood director (in Chashme Baddoor). Talk about life coming full circle!

The actress, known for the success of her recent releases Pink and Baby and the upcoming Naam Shabana and Ghazi. Says an industry observer, “Taapsee may have opened her B-Town innings with CB in 2013, a success on its own terms, but she wasn’t really taken seriously until 2015’s Baby came along. David Dhawan was quite impressed though with her comic timing and knew that he had to rope in Taapsee again.” Our source adds, “He made only one film in the interim period, Main Tera Hero, and roped in Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri for that. However, when casting began for Judwaa 2, he remembered Taapsee. Varun, who knew her since the Chashme Baddoor days, was glad to be in her company.”

For producer Sajid Nadiadwala, while Jacqueline Fernandez was a clear choice as one of the leading ladies of Judwaa 2, bringing in Taapsee into the Nadiadwala Grandson fold was a step taken in the right direction. Consider this, says our source, “Sajid churns out multiple films at regular intervals. On an average, he makes around three films a year, most of which are family entertainers. Given her comic timing, desi looks and persona as well as versatility, Taapsee would be really looking forward to forge an association though Judwaa 2.”

Taapsee now has her hands full for 2017 as she would be seen in Judwaa 2, Naam Shabana, Ghazi, Tadka, Makhna and Running Shaadi.com. Did we mention there’s a South film or two in the offing?
