Ever since Suraj Sharma was finalised to play the Pi in the Oscar-winning Hollywood filmmaker Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, the young actor has been on a globe-trotting spree. After returning from LA — where he was attending the Golden Globes — on Tuesday, he’s already packed his bags for London to attend the BAFTAs, post which he will be flying to the US to attend the Academy Awards.

“Life has been passing by in a blur,” says Suraj. “There are times when I actually feel like Pi stranded on a boat in the ocean, there’s so much happening around. There are moments I try to hold on to, the others happen in fast-motion,” he says.  The actor has won a nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star and is looking forward to the event which will be held on Sunday.

“More than the award, I am just soaking in the feeling of being nominated alongside some real good talent.” As for the Oscars, Suraj says that the feelings are all mixed.

“I sometimes hope there weren’t so many good films in the competition,” he laughs. “In a way that’s also the end of the journey for me as Pi. It’s the last of the awards, post this we all just move on. I will miss being Pi,” he adds on a sombre note.

Is he open to film offers too. “Bollywood, Hollywood, no I am not thinking like that. A good role anywhere is welcome,” smiles Suraj.
