Superstar Rajinikanth honoured with Padma Vibhushan

Superstar Rajinikanth was one of the recipients of the Padma Vibhushan Award on Tuesday morning at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. He received the prestigious award from President Pranab Mukherjee in a ceremony that featured other stalwarts and celebrities.

Shivaji Rao Gaekwad started out his career as a bus conductor and today is a renowned name across the world in cinema. Superstar Rajinikanth, as he is fondly called, has worked in Hindi and Bengali films too, though Tamil is his primary domain. Earlier in 2000, he was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan. 

Rajinikanth is one of the leading personalities of Tamil cinema. There was a lot of expectation that he would enter politics like many other Tamil stars, but he has refrained from doing so. 

Fans, friends and members of the Tamil film fraternity congratulated the Superstar on this momentous occasion. Music director Anirudh Ravichander who is part of his family was one of the first to congratulate him. Many other including National Award winning director Samuthirakani, Dhanush and others extended their best wishes.
