After winning Nach Baliye 5 (NB) and appearing in one episode of NB Shriman Vs Shrimati, Jay Bhanushali is gearing up for another dance show, Dance India Dance (DID) Super Moms — this time as a host.

He had recently gone to Kolkata for the auditions and can’t get over the dance performances of a few moms. “When I was offered the show, I had my doubts  whether it will work.  I was not sure if the moms will be able to leave their families and dance as expected on the show. But the Kolkata auditions proved me wrong. It was a shocker,” says Jay.

What impressed him most was when a lady aged 40 said that after living her life for her family, husband and kids, she wanted to live for herself, which is why she was participating in the dance show. “That was inspiring,” says Jay, who is now waiting for the show to begin.

The actor-turned-anchor has been part of all seasons of Dance India Dance shows except one season that was hosted by Manish Paul. “DID is like homeground for me. I love to rule the show, be the captain of the ship,” he quips, In fact, that was one of the reasons he didn’t want to participate in Nach Baliye initially.

“I had rejected it thrice but my wife Mahi (Vij) convinced me to take part and I am glad I did. Else I would have been watching some other couple lift the trophy in the grand finale,” smiles Jay who claimed the title.

Though he started out as an actor with serials like Dhoom Machao Dhoom and Kayamath, Jay is now known more for his anchoring skills. Over six months ago, he returned to acting with Kairee — Rishta Khatta Meetha, but opted out when he felt things weren’t shaping up the way he thought it would.

“I don’t want to talk about it, it’s over,” he shrugs. Ask him whether that experience has made him wary and he retorts he isn’t keen on doing regular TV soaps. “I want to do something different and when such a role comes my way, I will definitely take it up because first and foremost I am an actor,” he says. In the meantime he has been signed for a film — the sequel of Hate Story. Though he confirms that he is set to make his film debut, he says it’s too early to talk about it right now.
