Star Wars #ForceForChange - A message from JJ Abrams and UNICEF

It's true the casting for Star Wars: Episode VII, which will be directed by JJ Abrams, is already done. Well, almost. There are still a few roles to fill, and according to JJ Abrams announcement on May 21, you could win a chance to pick up a lightsaber or pilot an X-Wing.

On the set of Star Wars: Episode VII in Abu Dhabi, JJ Abrams shot a video and introduced Star Wars: #ForceForChange. The initiative, as per the official page, wants to create a brighter tomorrow for thousands of kids and families around the world, and hopes to enlist your help and creativity in order to develop innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.

The campaign hopes to raise awareness for UNICEF’s Innovation Labs and Programs and has the financial backing of Disney, Lucasfilm, Bad Robot, Omaze.com, and UNICEF.

The video revealed not only the chance to win a walk-on role in the movie, but may also have provided fans with a glimpse of one of the characters that populate the desert planet.

Disney has already committed one million dollars to the campaign, and fans can go straight to Omaze.com/StarWars to contribute as well as win their very own chance to star in their favourite space opera. The minimal contribution of $10 can be made through the Omaze fundraising platform, and those that contribute are automatically get their chance to be in the film. The campaign will run from May 21 to June 18.

As with most campaigns, there are a number of added advantages to the more you donate. The starting contribution is $10, but the amount can go up to $50,000. Each level have different benefits including, signed Star Wars merchandise, posters, preview screenings of Episode VII, meetings with the cast, helping with the make-up and costumes on set, as well as special thank you items from Abrams himself.

Although there are some stipulations, some countries are not eligible, others are outside the purview of participation etc.

The initiative is creating quite the wave online, and fans are joining in by the hundreds.
