On Wednesday, legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee's daughter Poulami Bose took to her unverified Facebook account to share how upset she was at her father's pictures at a hospital's ICU ward being leaked online.

Taking to her social media handle Bose wrote that she was 'extremely upset', 'sad' and 'heartbroken' to find that photographs of her father Soumitra Chatterjee receiving treatment at a Kolkata hospital, had surfaced online.

She urged social media users and fans of her father to give them privacy and requested netizens to not share photos or indulge in 'rumour-mongering'.

Bose wrote, "Amidst this time of huge anxiety over the health of my Covid-afflicted father, Soumitra Chatterjee, we are extremely upset, sad and heartbroken to find unauthorised pictures of him from the ICU and his medical bulletin being shared widely on social media. Please give him the privacy and respect that he so richly deserves. Kindly do not share such images/information and do not heed or indulge in rumour-mongering. This is the urgent appeal of my family. Your prayers and good wishes are always very welcome. Thank you. (sic)."

On Tuesday, it was reported that the noted Bengali actor and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Soumitra Chatterjee's health condition had improved a little, allowing the team of 15 doctors that are treating him, to put on hold  'invasive ventilation'.

"Following it we have decided to keep a hold on invasive airway protection," doctors treating Chatterjee told PTI. "Chatterjee is still in a confusional state which is progressive in nature with COVID-related encephalopathy and metabolic encephalopathy (brain disease)," they said.

On October 6, the ageing thespian had tested positive for the novel coronavirus following which he was admitted to Kolkata's Belle Vue Nursing Home. The 85-year-old has been under constant observation and is receiving intensive care since then.

Earlier, a senior doctor treating Chatterjee, while giving a health update on him had said that Chatterjee was at an 'acute confusional stage' and thus he had been shifted to Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU).

“Mr Chatterjee has been shifted to the ITU after he has been experiencing restlessness and reached an acute confusional stage. We have shifted him to the ITU for close monitoring. He is having several co-morbidities, that’s why we need to be more careful,” the doctor told PTI.

Chatterjee reportedly was showing symptoms like fever since he started shooting at Bharatlaxmi Studio on October 1.

According to a report in India Today, the noted Bengali actor had been shooting for a biopic and documentary that chronicles his life. Titled 'Abhiyan', the biopic reportedly features Parambrata  Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta, who will be seen a young Soumitra Chatterjee whilst Chatterjee himself will play his older self in the said film. The next schedule of the film was on October 7.

Chatterjee had suffered from pneumonia last year and was also admitted to the hospital for a brief period then.
