Sooraj Barjatya's happy his son has Salman Khan’s blessings

Sooraj Barjatya will launch his son Avnish as a director in the coming months. But it was Salman Khan who first discovered the boy’s talent for writing and direction.

Avnish is writing a love story, whose concept he had narrated to Salman during his stint as assistant director (AD) on his father’s sets for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.  It is rumoured that Salman and Sonam Kapoor will be cast in the film. Sooraj avers, “Right now, it all depends on how the script shapes up.”

However, he does admit his friend’s role in the ‘discovery’ of his son. He says, “It was Salman who told me, ‘Avnish is all set to become a director. When are you launching him?’ I had no idea Avnish wanted this. But I’m so happy that he has Salman’s blessings. Avnish made his decision, and what’s even better is that, he is writing his script. He has the potential, and it’s very important for a director to be a writer, too.”

Sooraj says Avnish’s decision to turn director is a big step for him as a father, as well as for their banner. “He has his other ideas which we respect, but keeping in mind the sanctity of the Rajshri banner and my directorial debut, Maine Pyar Kiya, his debut also will be with a family film. And I can’t say whether it’s a love story or not. He has got different ideas. We want him to focus on his writing for now. He will be done in a couple of months.”

Sooraj is currently busy with the launch of his serial Piya Albela on Zee TV. His next directorial will happen after Avnish’s launch.
