Like many B-Town actors, Sonu Sood, who launched his production company last year, will now produce Marathi films, too. Not just that, he will act in the first production.

Sonu confirms, “I will produce a Marathi film and also act in it. I first came to Nagpur from my hometown Moga, Punjab, to pursue engineering, and that city has made me the man I am today. I owe a lot to the people of Maharashtra. It’s time to give something back to the state, which has become my second home. I have done films in many languages from Hindi, Tamil, Telugu to Chinese and English — now I must do something in Marathi to say thank you to the state. Two writers are penning a script for me. I have liked the concept. My film will have a social message. I will launch it this year.”

A couple of years ago, Sonu was offered a Marathi film, but he turned it down as he was not prepared. He explains, “The Marathi film industry has been producing great content. I did not want to go in unprepared.” Sonu adds that he’s still not very fluent in the language and plans to master it before he begins the film, “It will be a challenge to learn the language. I have told all my friends to talk to me in Marathi so that I can speak the language fluently. My first production Tootak Tutiya did well and so did Kung Fu Yoga and I am very happy as a producer. Now I want to produce more films with good content.”
