Sonu Nigam's been a motor mouth all his life. The singer whose songs have been chartbusters have been on rough grounds, thanks to his controversial statements. Now, he landed in fresh trouble after he posted a few tweets about Muslims and the Azaan.
On Monday morning, Nigam posted a series of tweets, taking digs at the religion and the Azaan - the Islamic call to worship. According to Sonu, he is regularly woken up by the Azaan which disturbs his sleep and hence is on a complaining mode. He didn't just stop there. He went further and explained how Prophet Mohammad lived in an era where there was no electricity and compared the azaan to a cacophony?'
God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India

And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?

I don't believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don't follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?

Sonu is now facing severe backlash on social media for making such a statement as it has not gone down well with a section of people. Immediately, Twitterati started having a field day and slammed him left, right and centre. Comments against the singer ranged from bad to ugly. Take a look at few of the comments right here -
@sonunigam I am a fan of urs but this was definitely a bullshit statement. U gotta respect other religions beliefs. It's a democratic country.

@sonunigam Learn to accept & respect our religious differences. Living in a multi-religious society demands some tolerance.
