Here's what the singer has to say...

On the morning of April 17, singer Sonu Nigam woke up to the Azaan which probably interrupted his sleep. Upset by this, the singer went on a Twitter rant against the use of loudspeakers in Mosques, Temples, Gurudwaras and other places of worship, calling it 'forced religiousness.'
Here's what he tweeted:
God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India

And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?

I don't believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don't follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?

Soon after this, the Twitterati went berserk, slamming Nigam left right and centre and the singer had to face a lot of backlash, owing to his tweets. While mostly the Twitterati has been busy posting against the singer, some did manage to see the real problem (of the use of loudspeakers at religious places) behind Nigam's comments.
Now, Sonu Nigam has finally reacted on the issue. He took to his Twitter account and wrote, "Dear everyone. Your stand exposes your own IQ. I stand by my statement that loudspeakers should not be allowed in Mosques & Temples. Period"

While Sonu Nigam's stand against the use of loudspeakers at places of worship has sparked off a debate, whether his recent reaction will add fuel to the fire or bring about some difference in the current practise, remains to be seen.
