There's a fresh twist in the Sonika Singh Chauhan death case. Actor Vikram Chatterjee has now been charged of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder for the death of the Bengali model-actress.

As reported, on April 29, Vikram and Sonika were together when their car, which was being driven by Vikram himself, rammed on to a shop and turned 180 degrees. Sonika was taken to the hospital where she breathed her last whereas Vikram suffered injuries.

Earlier, Vikram was charged for causing death by rash and negligent driving which had a maximum jail term of 2 years. But now, with fresh charges of culpable homicide, the jail term can extend to as much as 10 years.

Vikram had claimed that although he did have alcohol on the night of the crash, he wasn't drunk and he also said that he was not speeding as well. He alleged that the tramlines on the road caused the crash.

It now needs to be seen what happens next.
