Most stars sign several films if one is a success at the box-office. And if their performance has won critical acclaim, it’s a double bonus. Ram Madhvani’s Neerja was not just a superhit at the B-O, Sonam Kapoor’s performance was also a much-lauded one. But last year, rather than signing films by the dozen, the actress chose to take a break for a year. She tells us why…

“The beginning of 2016 was really hectic for me when Neerja released in February. I needed time. I don’t know if people have noticed it, but I take a lot of time off between my films. I just needed to refresh myself and understand where I wanted to go next. I needed a break from Neerja as it was a heavy film for me to do. And after the promotions, I was exhausted, so I took time off…”

This year, Sonam is back with a bang after signing three top banners — she has Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanjay Dutt biopic, sister Rhea Kapoor’s Veere Di Wedding and R Balki’s Padman.

This hardly gives her any time to prepare for the Cannes red carpet event, which she will walk for an international cosmetics brand. Sonam says, “It’s true. Now, what has happened is that though I will be going to Cannes in May (as everybody knows), unfortunately for me, I am shooting for two films (Veere Di Wedding and Dutt biopic) at that time, so I will just go there blind as far as my clothes are concerned. Whatever happens, will happen! If people don’t like the clothes I wear, it’s not my fault.”
