He was introduced as a romantic hero in Karan Johar’s Student of The Year and his next, Hansi to Phansi too sees him in the same light. However, Siddharth Malhotra has now been cast in the lead role — that of an angry young man — in Ekta Kapoor and director Mohit Suri’s upcoming action biggie, Villain.

According to an insider, the film will be an out-and-out masala entertainer and will show Siddharth as an action hero for the first time.

“Siddharth was Ekta and Mohit’s first choice and they are thrilled to have found their perfect hero for Villain,” reveals the source. Besides being a break-away film for Siddharth from his romantic image, Villain is a also a break-out film for Mohit who along with Emraan Hashmi formed the backbone of successful films in the Bhatt camp.

“The makers are yet to decide on the actress who would be cast opposite Siddharth. The film will go on floors after he finishes Hansi to Phansi where he is paired with Parineeti Chopra. The film will also have a A-lister play a strong villainous character,” adds the insider.

Siddharth had earlier revealed to After Hrs, how he was looking forward to doing an action-oriented film. “I would love to do an action film, which will be completely different from the romantic films that I have been doing and getting,” he’d said.

And now with this film, seems like the young actor’s dream has come true sooner than he’d expected.
