They are at the top of the game. But seem to be hitting the wrong notes lately. Here are Bollywood darlings who need to get it right in 2017.
Sidharth Malhotra
He had two releases in 2016 — Kapoor & Sons was a knockout punch. But Fawad Khan walked away to Pakistan with all the credit. As for Baar Baar Dekho, the title proved ominously ironic. The audiences stayed away despite a hit song. The film let him down, just like Brothers did. This year Mr Malhotra has Reload, Aashiqui 3, Ittefaq and an untitled movie with Salman Khan Films.
Katrina Kaif
After Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor in 2015 and Nitya Mehra’s unfortunate Baar Baar Dekho in 2016, Katrina needs to desperately come back with Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai. Her once upon a time rival Deepika Padukone has zoomed ahead, and Kat needs to get back in the race. Since Salman has always rescued her in the past there is no reason why he won’t be able to do so yet again.
Parineeti Chopra
The break she took to get into shape, put a brake on her career and put her plans out of shape. Now, she needs that one film to bring her back into the reckoning. Meri Pyaari Bindu looks promising. If that doesn’t do the trick, then she has the next movie of Rohit Shetty’s successful Golmaal franchise to look forward to.
Vidya Balan
Vidya needs to stop shouldering films for a change. Be it a film where she lets the guys take charge, or a multi-starrer, or a chick flick. If Kareena Kapoor Khan can, she certainly can, and perhaps needs to. Just move to the backseat in a big star-studded masala blockbuster. Maybe that will be liberating. She should go ahead and give it a shot.
Shraddha Kapoor
With Rock On 2 and Ok Jaanu tanking within two months of each other, this Kapoor needs to do some serious re-thinking. She will begin the year with Half Girlfriend. Then she has Haseena where she plays Dawood’s dreaded sister. It’s a do-or-die effort for Shraddha. It could be her The Dirty Picture. Director Apoorva Lakhia is Bollywood’s in-house expert on gangsterism. She has signed her first movie opposite a Khan — Aamir — with Thugs of Hindostan.
Aditya Roy Kapur
A good actor, seemingly fool-proof projects with topnotch banners and co-stars have let this Kapur down. Who would have thought that a Yash Raj Film (Daawat-e-Ishq), Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor, and a Karan Johar production (Ok Jaanu) would sink without a trace? Aditya now needs to get adventurous. Sign an unsafe film. Go, swim in the dark. Currently, he is in talks for a light-hearted fun film.
