Shivi Kashyap calls herself the girl from the hills who has a deep connect to folk music. Yet, her Aisi hi hoon main from Amit Sahni Ki List has nothing to do with her roots either as a musician or singer. Says Shivi, "It's a club song about women power. Though I love folk music I don't want to be stuck in one genre. I will compose according to the situation. This had to be an EDM (electroni dance music) track." The peppy dance number, which is basically a promotional song, has been quite popular. And that is the only song composed by Shivi in the movie.

The 22-year-old Shivi came from Himachal to Mumbai four years ago to pursue her dream of becoming a Bollywood composer. After working with T-Series and Rajshree, she got her first break as a singer in Mr Kalakaar, the songs of which were composed by Sandesh Shandliya. He heard her compositions, and recommended her to Deepa Sahi when she was looking for a composer for Tere Mere Sapne. "She liked my songs and I composed six songs for the film as well as the background score," says Shivi. That was a couple of years ago. Ask her why it took so long for her next assignment and Shivi says she was busy composing songs for her album. "I believe things happen when they have to. I am working on a couple of films, one of which is Dilphire for which I have composed three songs - one is sung by Mika Singh, another is a Sufi number by three Rajasthani artistes and third one I have sung with Arijit Singh," says the youngster proudly.

There have been reports about her being actor Danny Denzongpa's niece. Has that helped her to open doors in the industry? "Let me clarify that I am not related to Danny. He is my father's friend," says Shivi adding that with talent and hard work she is gradually making a place for herself in the industry.
