It could not have gotten more Sherlockian than this.

In a social media experiment, BBC One, home of Sherlock, planned an interactive case solving session with writers of the show Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss taking over the Twitter account of the channel, sending out tweets as Sherlock Holmes.

It took a month for the digital team at BBC Welsh to put this together. The aim was to get people excited before the season finale and involve others who are interested in nothing more than a murder mystery.

On Tuesday, late night by Indian Standard Time, the sleuth took over, or in his words, 'hacked into'' the BBC One Twitter account and the game was on.

He started with insulting BBC One for having poor security measures because breaking in was so very easy.

This definitely got people's attention. But they were in for delightful insults for being boring and obvious.

After getting into the groove, Sherlock tweeted a video detailing the cold case

Pat came another insult flung at BBC...

... and a promise of Sherlock paying attention to you if you get it right.

The clues included an initial report from Lestrade, a photo of victim's Twitter feed, CCTV image of the victim being dragged by a masked man, an image of his family and staff at the restaurant owned by the victim.

Sherlock was generous enough to provide the fellow sleuths with extracts of Lestrade's interviews regarding the case.

Savvy Sherlock took a quick poll,

followed by a beautiful insult,

Sensing the delay and already getting impatient with the participating crowd, the detective tweeted,

It was time for another poll since they narrowed down the suspects.

By this time, the tweeple were finding the answers to a few questions the case had posed. Good ones too at that. Sherlock wanted them to go further into their mind palace and work out the final solution.

'Twas time for another clue and to address Lestrade's incompetence.

Sherlock seemed to have had enough of people just guessing. It was time to call them out.

The consulting detective was 'amused' by how people were coming to conclusions

Sherlock had also taken over the live blog at the BBC. There he revealed that Mrs. Hudson had come to the  apartment and helped send out another clue.

Here, take a better look at the new clues -

Another insult coming your way.

People too were getting impatient. The answers were coming in all caps and Sherlock wasn't having any of it.

Sherlock unveiled another clue. The victim was having an affair and police had interviewed the girlfriend.

Someone tweeted an important clue in the case, but Sherlock being Sherlock was pushing them to their limits

Another clue.

Finally, Sherlock got an answer interesting enough to sub-tweet.

It was time to make a deduction. So another poll was tweeted,

He then tweeted another CCTV footage showing a masked man dragging what appeared to be a large bin bag towards the restaurant freezer.

Meanwhile, someone dared to make a jibe at Sherlock's tweeting speed. Big mistake, because the reply was just as acerbic.

Then Sherlock tweeted a picture of the victim at the crime scene and pointed out that there were two clues in it that stood out.

He helped with four more clues to solve the case. But the help didn't come without acidic remarks about the intelligence of people partaking in solving the case.

Fans of the show are well aware of Sherlock's love for dogs and you never tug on the memories of them or Red Beard. Someone dared bring a dog into the conversation and that too in all caps. They were in for a shouty response.

Another insult.

Seemed like Mrs. Hudson was still on the Tweeple's side. She asked Sherlock to help them with another clue.

Bakers Street Babes, a Sherlock fan site, tried to bring in more people to participate in the quest. But their shout out was met with another zinger.

Ahem...

Mr. Holmes was obviously getting tired.

One suspect emerged. Well, not quite!

Some people did answer a few questions. So the detective turned them towards the right direction.

One more jab as we move on.

Then came along someone smart, living up to Sherlock's standards. And they were rewarded with a compliment!

By this time, since there had been no sign of John Watson, people started enquiring and Sherlock obliged.

Then, one suspect was ruled out.

And Sherlock was getting impatient. Thankfully there were no more holes put in the wall.

Sarcasm?

More insults and too much information.

Nobody knew Miss Piggy was a fan of the detective or, for that matter, the show. In their wildest dreams, no one would have thought that Miss Piggy would want to star in the show. But then Sherlock had another answer in mind.

Finally, Sherlock revealed the answer.

He praised one of the participants who had solved the case rather quickly.

And left with a parting shot
