Filmmaker Guy Ritchie is reportedly in talks to direct Disney's live-action Aladdin film.

If Ritchie signs on to direct the film, it will reunite him with producer Dan Lin, who worked on the Sherlock Holmes movies.

Jonathan Eirich has signed on as executive producer and John August has written the script for the remake.

The film will reportedly feature many of the musical elements from the 1992 animated movie and moviemakers are still working on how to approach the Genie character in the film. The animated wish granter in the Disney film was voiced by the late Robin Williams.

The film was also adapted into a Broadway show in 2014.

Ritchie is also one of the front-runners to direct the next instalment of the James Bond film series.

"Guy is under serious consideration for Bond 25 and this LA trip should help take this further. He doesn't have Sam's artistry, but Guy is a fast-paced, stunt-based director, who knows his stuff," reported Daily Mirror quoting a source close to film development team.

Ritchie's fast pace direction and visualisation of action scenes caught the eye of Bond team who are looking to replace Sam Mendes. After directing Skyfall and Spectre, Mendes stepped down as helmer of Bond movies. Apart from the director for Bond 25, rumours about front-runner to take up Bond role, if Daniel Craig doesn't come back on board, have caught the wind.
