If you think that models can’t act, actor Sheena Chohan is all set you challenge you. After having won numerous beauty pageants, the young lass took the plunge into movies in Malayalam with The Train opposite Mammotty. Now she is all set to debut in Hindi with a rather meaty role in Thrayadashee, directed by Buddhadev Dasgupta.

This Hindi film will be a series of short films based on the poems written by the legendary writer Rabindranath Tagore. Sheena will be playing the lead role in the short story Patralekha. “This is my second film and I am really thrilled to be a part of the project. It’s an honour to be a part of Tagore’s work as I’ve grown up reading his poetry. After having worked with award-winning director in the south, I am glad to debut in Hindi with Buddhadev sir’s project,” says an elated Sheena.

The movie will be a tribute to our first Indian Nobel laureate in his 150th year of celebration. Talking about how she landed up in the role, she says, “Buddhadev called me for a screen test and he immediately signed me up for the movie as I fitted the character perfectly. It’s a political drama and lucky to being playing the role of protagonist.”

Having grown up in Kolkata, Sheena’s association with Tagore was present since she was a child. “I love reading his poetry and looked up to him as a part of my growing up days. He was a revolutionist and left a great impact on most of the Indians. Though I love most of his works, I really like Where the Mind is Without Fear a lot,” she reveals.

With offbeat projects to her credit, does she like to do mainstream commercial cinema as well? “You can’t follow set patterns when you are part of the film world. Before I entered, I had a lot of misconceptions about working for films. Once I entered, everything was clear to me and I was ambitious in choosing the right scripts for me. Though I don’t have any plan, I just want to be a part of films that convince me as an actor and earn respect,” she signs off.
