Shashi Kapoor awarded Dadasaheb Phalke award at Prithvi Theatre in star studded ceremony

Usually the award is presented at a ceremony in New Delhi. But Shashi Kapoor was not well to attend the ceremony on May 3. so it was presented at Prithvi Theatre today.

Bollywood veteran, Shashi Kapoor was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai filled to the brim with Kapoors and rest of the film industry.

The 77-year-old actor was clad in a black outfit and orange shawl. He was accompanied by daughter Sanjana and son Kunal Kapoor. Other members of Kapoor family, sister-in-law Krishna Raj Kapoor, actor nephew Rishi Kapoor, grandnephew Ranbir Kapoor, and grandniece Karisma were present too.

Rishi Kapoor introduced his uncle in the cheeky manner he is known to talk in. He thanked the government for giving the award for the third time in the Kapoor family. First two awardees being Prithvi Raj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor. Speaking to Shashi Kapoor's children, Rishi Kapoor said that today being Mother's day, it's their father's day too. He presented the montage which featured 4 decades of Shashi Kapoor in the film and theatre industry. In the short film, his costars and family member recounted the memories of working with Shashi Kapoor.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley gave the award to Shashi Kapoor which comprised of a shawl, 'Sawrna-Kamal', certificate and a cheque of Rs 10 lakh.

Many of Shashi Kapoor's colleagues and his former heroines were present at the ceremony. Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh, Nafisa Ali, Rekha, Raj Babbar, Zeenat Aman, Shabana Azmi, Shyam Benegal, and Hema Malini were spotted at Prithvi Theatre.

Megastar and second half of their popular onscreen duo, Amitabh Bachchan was also present there with son Abhishek Bachchan. Later Amitabh Bachchan spoke a few words honouring the veteran actor.
