Now it is certain. Neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Sanjay Leela Bhansali is budging from their stand and the clash between Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale is imminent. It is time to look at it rather differently.

So far, it has been all about SRK vs SLB, courtesy their history of clashes. But there’s  another important battle that is perhaps going unnoticed.

Come December 18, two of the hottest youngsters, Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan, will see a box-office encounter as well.

Says a senior trade member, “Not only are both Ranveer and Varun in great demand, they are also liked immensely by one and all. The best part about them is that other than being really talented, they are also humble, down-to-earth and attached to their roots. They don’t have any airs about them, they don’t have a halo on their head, and very importantly, they stay miles away from controversies. It is sad that both of them would have to clash with each other in a commercial zone.”

Considering that both young actors are doing quite well in their careers since starting out, all eyes would be on how well their two films travel.

Ranveer has had occasional disappointments in Gunday, Kill Dil and Dil Dhadakne Do,  but he has a Rs100 crore solo success Ram-Leela to his name. Meanwhile, Varun is enjoying a cent per cent success rate, and has only delivered hits — right from the days of Student Of The Year right up to his Rs100 crore club entry flick, ABCD 2 - Any Body Can Dance 2.

Though Ranveer and Varun aren’t as friendly as they are with Arjun Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra respectively, they share a warm and pleasant equation with each other. Also, that is the good part about stars from the current generation, they aren’t into cut-throat competition either. With both doing good work and finding their own space, it’s pretty much ‘jiyo aur jeene do’.

“However, the clash of titans this December means Ranveer and Varun would find themselves in the ring as well,” says the trade member, adding, “It would be interesting to see how they acknowledge each other, once the promotional onslaught gets into the next gear in weeks to come.”
