'Mardaani' is a very hard hitting, compelling thriller where you see a good looking guy turning up as a villain. The antagonist, who has mostly got rave reviews for his menacing and powerful act, Tahir Bhasin is turning heads. A surprise package which Yash Raj Films tried to keep under the wraps, Tahir is basking in the glory now. "It was a deliberate move made by the producers and the entire team to keep me away from the limelight until the film releases. My character was hidden just to keep that element of surprise in the film", smiled Tahir.

Playing a villain at such an early stage in his career might mean that he will get stereotyped and boxed. But the actor feels totally different. " For my role in 'Mardaani', I thought of Shah rukh sir's performance in 'Darr' or 'Baazigar'. These were huge inspirations for me when I was growing up. The only major worry for me was that Hindustan ki ladkiya ab mujhse nafrat karenge (Laughs). but I am overwhelmed with the response where people told me that 'we hated your character but we loved your performance'. This proves how intelligent the audience is today", he excitedly gushed.

He looks good and definitely is a lead actor material. But is he open to doing rom-coms, we ask! " As an actor, I am open to everything that comes my way now. I cannot afford to be choosy. I don't have any rigid mindset of doing just a particular kind of films. Luckily I have been blessed with the kind of look that is malleable. I can fit into the character of a villain and a hero, both easily. I could never ever imagine in my wildest dreams that my first film will have me in a negative character.  If you check my portfolio pictures, it would be hard for you to imagine me as a villain. So if a rom-com or a drama came my way, I think I will be more than open to take it up."

"Today the distinction between an art film and a commercial film are blending into something like a 'Mardaani'. It is not an item number film or even an intellectual art film either. It is entertaining but it gives a social message as well", he said.
