Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone's 'Happy New Year' crosses Rs 80 crore at box office

Shah Rukh Khan's Diwali magnum opus Happy New Year released this Friday and has been on an earth shattering spree ever since. After scoring a mammoth Rs 44.97 crore on its opening day including the Tamil and Telugu dubs, the film raked in huge moolah on its second day as well to take its total to over Rs 80 crore, in two days flat!

The ensemble dance heist film might have faced flak from critics all over but the positive word of mouth from the audience and its strong entertainment quotient has catapulted the film to set a huge record for all other films.

The film netted Rs 42.62 crore from the domestic circuit on Friday and the remaining amount came from the Tamil and Telugu dubs, taking the first day total to whopping Rs 44.97 crore. On its second day as well, the film maintained its momentum and brought in around Rs 38 crore on Saturday.

With that, the two day total of the Farah Khan directorial is Rs 82.97, which in itself is a record. It has also crossed the previous record held by Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 and is looking for a huge box office total. Sunday, being a holiday will also bring in huge numbers and the film's occupancy has been rock solid from the morning shows itself. The film will also break Aamir's Dhoom 3 record of the highest weekend total and all that needs to be seen is how the weekdays fare for the film.

Happy New Year stars SRK, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah in lead roles.
