As an athlete in school, I used to sprint and took to tracks for 100 metre runs and 4x100 relays. When everyone put on their spikes to run, I would throw mine aside and run barefoot. I loved how the ground and it’s energy felt against my foot with every step! But of course running sans spikes or shoes was not something I could do in the long term and hence I couldn’t run long distances. However, the ideology behind the DNA I Can marathon has reminded me of the fact that nothing is impossible... It’s just a hurdle in one’s mind. I would love to run a full or half marathon and get over the block I have against running long distances in shoes — simply because I CAN!

Working towards a target gives us focus, instills a strong sense of positivity, fills us with happy endorphins and above all reminds us of our sense of self. I truly admire women who despite their schedules and responsibilities set aside time to train, set their marathon goals and complete them. Victory and completion creates such a beautiful feeling of achievement, empowerment and the fact that it is an accomplishment of one’s self and not proof for anyone else is what makes it truly incredible. Here’s to all those women who are racing to the finish line only because they know and want to remind others like me that what matters most is you.
