She famously stripped naked for her debut film Bandit Queen 17 years ago and acclaimed actress Seema Biswas will go nude on screen again for her latest, Tomorrow, which explores the underworld of Mumbai.

The 46-year-old actress said that the naked scenes in her first film, including a gang rape, were tough but she went ahead in a bid to bring Phoolan Devi, the infamous dacoit, to life.

"Bandit Queen was like reliving the life of Phoolan Devi and she was brutally gang raped. However, many people saw sex and glamour even in that crime. I tried to be as convincing and real as possible for my viewers," the National Award winning actress told PTI.

It was again in the pursuit of a realistic portrayal that the actress agreed to film the nude scenes in Tomorrow where she plays the mother of a young man, caught between the forces of terrorism and the underworld.

"It was the requirement of the story and I agreed," said Biswas who began her career on stage and was spotted by Bandit Queen director Shekhar Kapur while on stage in Khoobsoorat Bahu, a play produced by NSD Repertory Company.

The actress has since gone onto prove her versatility in a variety of roles and languages, including films in Marathi, Malayalam, Assamese and Tamil.

"I want to do different sort of roles as I don't want to be typecast," said Biswas adding that her upcoming films are as different from each other as chalk and cheese.

While Rahul Dholakia's Society is a comedy revolving around an apartment, Tomorrow is a dark thriller, which traces the various terror attacks on Mumbai, from the 1993 blasts to 26/11 attacks in 2008.
