Sanju Baba’s blockbuster hit ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ completes a decade!

Sanjay Dutt-starrer Lage Raho Munna Bhai has completed its 10 golden years. The Rajkumar Hirani cult movie was released on September 1, 2006.

Dutt had reprised his role as Munna Bhai in the film, and the movie further showcases how he turns into a Radio Jockey spreading Gandhigiri.

His role in the movie as an RJ won him widespread critical acclaim and is one of the most remembered roles of Bollywood. The actor is also referred as Munna Bhai in real life by his fans! 

The way he had portrayed the character of a Radio Jockey in the movie has made him a popular figure among RJ’s. It soon became the actor's most loved characters among the audiences. RJ’s especially across the country love Sanju Baba for his performance in the movie and thank him for making their profession uber-cool amongst all the sections of society.

Sanjay Dutt's popularity among RJ’s doesn’t end over here, the news is RJ’s across the country want September 1 observed as World Radio Jockey Day. This is not just because it was the film's release date but also because Dutt was a Radio Jockey in real life while serving his prison term. 

The comedy-drama was helmed by ace filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and won four National Film Awards in addition to other awards.

The movie has a strong social message along with an immense dose of comedy and laughter. In the film, Munna Bhai, after seeing the spirit of Gandhiji as an effect of hallucinations, starts helping common people in their everyday life to  solve their problems which he terms as ‘Gandhigiri’.

The movie was an enormous hit at the box office upon its release and grossed approximately Rs 1.93 billion worldwide. It was the first Hindi movie to be screened at United Nations and was also screened at Tous Les Cinema du Monde section of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
