Sanjay Dutt, who is currently in Pune’s Yerawada jail, will soon be up for a parole. Word in B-Town is that the actor will be out soon for two weeks.
If all goes well, the 53-year-old star-actor who is serving a 42-month sentence in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, will get some respite and be able to spend time with his family. It is learnt that he will be let out for medical reasons.
Dutt is in a lot of pain because of blood clots in his legs. He also suffers from high blood pressure and wants to consult doctors when he is out on parole.
Dutt had applied for a 14-day leave of furlough last month as per the jail manuals. Earlier, he had applied to the divisional commissioner, for 30-day parole to avail of medical treatment, as he has completed two years (as an undertrial inmate and as a convict since May this year) in prison and is eligible to apply for parole.
Parole leave is granted only in cases of emergencies.
According to the jail manual, a convicted prisoner serving his jail term can avail of two options to seek temporary leave from the jail to visit his home, either parole or furlough.
Parole is granted in cases of emergencies, furlough is available as a right to the prisoner.
While his well-wishers would like to see him, they are not in favour of him coming out so soon, as they feel it might hurt his case. Says a family friend, “If he is seen partying or socialising at a night club or even a friend’s house and if there are reports of him drinking etc, it will do him a lot of harm.”
Also, right now he has spent 135 days in the jail and has completely detoxed. His family and friends want him to stay inside for a longer time so he can stay strong when he is home. But ultimately it is his decision and up to the courts to grant him time out.
It’s Play time
Bollywood celebs are expected to attend Dutt’s play at the Pune jail today. It is produced and enacted by 50 inmates for a fundraiser, the proceeds of which will go towards creating better amenities for the prisoners.
Amongst the visitors will be director Rohit Shetty, Dutt’s close friends Bunty Walia, Bittoo, Navin Shetty apart from his wife Manaayata and the Dutt family consisting of sisters Priya and Namrata along with their husbands Owen Roncon and Kumar Gaurav respectively.
The play will be enacted at 4 pm at an auditorium.
